Education is far more profound than just learning lessons, attending class, and turning in assignments. I consider education as the key ingredient to the success of an individual and strength of a nation or body of people. The pursuit of knowledge creates endless opportunity for a student. As a recent graduate with a degree in Political Science and minor in Public Leadership, I am prepared to effectively guide tomorrow’s leaders individually one step at a time.

I, like most recent college graduates, am adjusting to life after college. After five years of being a collegiate student athlete at three different institutions I have realized my passion for education and individual development. As such, I have much experience in mentoring, coaching, and tutoring young adults of various ages. A Political Science degree allows me to cover a vast number of different subjects within the social sciences and humanities including American History, European and World History, Government, Geography, etc. Furthermore, I am a polished writer and great with literature enabling me to help with writing and editing essays. Although education and individual development are central passions, I do have many other areas of interest. I love to travel and tour, playing and watching sports (especially college football), and listen to music! I desire to lead a life of excellence and honor, and it would be my pleasure to make a positive impact in someone’s life academically and or professionally.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is discussion-based, centered around the idea of connecting the student's ideas with that of the lesson/subject material he or she has been assigned to learn. This philosophy not only allows the student to learn the subject material but, more importantly, teaches he or she the skills of critical thinking and analytical problem solving.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

It is vital that I establish a great level of understanding of the student and what he or she is seeking to accomplish. Thus, session one is dedicated to discussing the objectives, obstacles, and solutions of the student.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can guide a student to becoming an independent learner by helping them connect their ideas to achieve their desired outcome.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would help a student stay motivated with consistent positive reinforcement and relating the subject material to real life situations.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would seek alternate learning concepts that correlate with the student's learning style.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I have found it best to consider and treat the student as an individual and not just another student. Every student is different and has a different way of learning. Efficient tutors/teachers are able to connect with students in ways that best relate to the student and his or her abilities.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would relate the subject matter to real-life situations, and intertwine the student's interest with the subject material.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I believe the best way to measure understanding is to switch roles. In other words, the student teaches me the material.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Positive reinforcement.
