Certified Tutor

In May 2014, I will be graduating from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. I tutor biology and all of the standard chemistry courses (general, organic, physical, biochemistry), but organic chemistry and biochemistry are my favorite subjects to tutor. I worked for several years at Palm Beach State College as a supplemental instructor for organic chemistry, in addition to private tutoring. It's very rewarding for me to help students break down barriers which are based in fear and low self-confidence, and help them realize that they can indeed conquer these subjects, no matter how scary their reputation may be. In chemistry, it can be very tempting to rely too heavily on rote memorization, so I try to focus on developing a deep understanding of concepts in order to reduce the need for memorization.

I also tutor Spanish, which has been a passion of mine for many years. I'm mostly self-taught and excited to help others learn from my own past mistakes. I recently spent 7 months studying in Spain, in a very small city where almost no one speaks English, which was simply a dream come true. The best advice I have for language learners is to step outside your comfort zone, and you'll be surprised how fast you'll catch on!

I am passionate about traveling, experiencing new cultures, learning new languages and trying new food. I'm in the process of becoming ESL certified, and I've just begun to learn Arabic, which is proving to be an enjoyable, very challenging, hobby.
