If you are pursuing a career in nursing, you will have to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Each exam is given by the State Board of Nursing, but Varsity Tutors’ Learning Tools covers all of the basic concepts you’ll need to know and brush up on for the exam. The main purpose of the exam is for the Board to certify that it’s safe for you to practice as a nurse. Content is integrated into five main categories, with all of the medical, surgical, psychiatric, obstetric, and pediatric materials included on a single exam. Primarily a multiple-choice test, the NCLEX-PN exam also includes alternate question types such as fill-in-the-blank, charts, multiple-response, drag-and-drop, and others.
Some questions might integrate multiple concepts. The NCLEX-PN Practice Tests are short exercises that cover general conditions and treatments and more specific categories such as gastrointestinal and respiratory conditions. Concepts such as ethics, procedures, the nurse-patient relationship, pharmacology, drug identification, and drug interactions are covered. You’ll see the average time it takes to complete each set of NCLEX-PN example questions; longer practice tests are available as well. These test your problem-solving abilities and cover subjects such as care, procedures, drug identification, psychosocial integrity, conditions, dosage, and bacteria and viruses. A full-length NCLEX-PN practice exam with many more sample questions is also provided, allowing more comprehensive testing of your knowledge as test day nears.
During each NCLEX-PN review, you’ll be asked both practical questions and questions involving technical subject matter. There’s no time limit, but the practice tests are timed to help you gauge your skill level and confidence each time you complete a free NCLEX-PN practice test. At the end, you’ll see all of your correct and incorrect responses. The feedback shows the percentile you scored at compared to other test-takers, plus visuals showing how you performed on each question. The data also includes the time spent on each and the percentage of people who got the questions right. However, the most helpful addition to your NCLEX-PN study plan may be the explanations to each answer. With these, you are able to add study time to only the concepts you need more work on. It allows for a more focused, efficient study plan.
Working with common questions and seeing your scoring results each time enables you to spend more time overcoming weaknesses. Varsity Tutors’ NCLEX-PN Learning Tools are meant to guide you along. The experience helps build your skills and become familiar with the test format. In addition to detailed feedback, there are social media sharing options. You can share your scores if you like, or even work in study groups. With so many complex topics, it can help to explain what you know to others and have your peers explain something you haven’t grasped yet.
The preparation offered by the NCLEX-PN practice tests support personalized study, whether you work alone or with others. You’ll gain even more exposure to the exact topics covered on the exam. When it’s time to take the exam, you will have a deeper familiarity with all of the relevant NCLEX-PN subjects and concepts you’ll need to know.
