Marius
Certified Tutor
I am passionate about helping students develop the skills they need to learn independently. With 20 years of teaching experience, I specialize in French language, literature, and civilization, English essay writing, history, humanities, and global cultures. My goal is to empower students to approach learning with curiosity, confidence, and critical thinkingskills that will serve them beyond the classroom.
I hold a PhD in French Literature and Translation from Johns Hopkins University and an MA from the Sorbonne. I have experience as a professor, researcher, translator, and editor. French is my favorite subject to teach, as I focus on both language proficiency and cultural understanding. Language learning is about more than vocabulary and grammar; it's about connecting with the world meaningfully.
My tutoring style is interactive, student-centered, and adaptable. I teach students how to learn, and I provide them with strategies to tackle new challenges and build long-term success. This approach fosters independent thinking and problem-solving, key skills for any subject or career.
In the age of online learning, at the dawn of AI, teaching methods and philosophies need to shift. Let's be real: our tutoring sessions will not make you an expert in anything. Rather, my approach is to help you to quickly and accurately become familiar with and begin to make sense of new and challenging ideas, stories, and events. Such skills are invaluable in a fast-changing and increasingly complex world, and they will greatly serve you in anything you endeavour throughout your life.
Outside of teaching, I'm passionate about reading, writing, music, theater, and travel, interests I incorporate into my lessons to create a fun and engaging learning environment.
I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals and be prepared for a lifelong journey of learning.
