As a passionate educator and dedicated Ph.D. student in Sociology at Temple University, I am driven by the desire to help students unlock their full potential and develop a deep understanding of the social world around them. My academic journey, which began with a B.S. in Applied Psychology from New York University and continued through my M.A. in Sociology from Temple, has equipped me with a diverse range of knowledge and skills that I'm eager to share with my students.
My teaching experience spans various roles, from serving as an Instructor of Record for Introduction to Sociology to being a Teaching Assistant for courses such as The History and Significance of Race and Urban Sociology. These experiences have honed my ability to break down complex sociological concepts into accessible insights, fostering an engaging and inclusive learning environment. I believe in the power of discussion-driven classes, where students are encouraged to apply theoretical concepts to real-world situations and current events.
My tutoring style is rooted in a philosophy of positive reinforcement and constructive feedback. I always begin by highlighting a student's strengths before offering areas for improvement, ensuring that they feel supported and motivated throughout their learning journey. I'm committed to demystifying challenging assignments and helping students develop the confidence to tackle any academic task.
As a researcher with experience in both qualitative and quantitative methods, I'm well-equipped to tutor a range of subjects including Sociology, Psychology, Research Methods, and Writing. I particularly enjoy tutoring in areas related to social issues, culture, and education, as these subjects allow for rich discussions and critical thinking opportunities.
My approach to tutoring is influenced by my belief in the importance of connecting course material to students' lived experiences. By encouraging students to share their thoughts and challenge ideas, I create an open learning environment where knowledge is not just transmitted, but co-created. This method not only enhances understanding but also helps students retain and apply what they've learned long after our sessions end.
Outside of academia, I'm passionate about social justice issues and enjoy applying my sociological lens to various aspects of everyday life. I find that my diverse interests, from grant writing to data analysis, often provide unique perspectives that enrich my tutoring sessions and help students see the broader applications of their studies.
Whether you're looking to excel in a specific course, improve your research skills, or simply gain a deeper understanding of social phenomena, I'm here to guide you with patience, expertise, and enthusiasm. Let's work together to achieve your academic goals and cultivate a lasting appreciation for the power of education.
