I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

Hello! My name is Lisa and I LOVE to tutor! Nothing gives me more joy than helping young people learn!

I am a highly motivated and dedicated certified tutor who loves to teach children! My track record of success is evident in the many successful students I have taught & their satisfied parents.

For several years now, I have been meeting one-on-one and/or helping students on Internet platforms. I have found that Internet learning reduces stress for the student. That is, they are snug in their homes, in their trusted setting immersing themselves (without distractions) on the task at hand.

My personality is such that I can overcome the "walls" of the Internet and bridge a relationship with the student even though we may be thousands of miles apart.

As a tutor who works both online and in person, I have found my uniqueness is in my patience (as I teach many ADHD students), as well as my fun-loving personality. I believe tutoring should be a fun learning experience; not a dreadful hour or two whether online or one-on-one. Parents and children alike compliment me on my demeanor, in addition to my competence.

I am a literacy expert having studied both the Science of Reading & The Science of Math. My core competencies are in elementary math (especially Common Core math), as well as ELA. I am exceptional at making phonics fun and engaging for the student.

In fact, I am the inventor of Math Monopoly! Phonics is the key to learning how to read, along with orthographic mapping which all can be taught online.

My education started with Early Childhood Development where I was trained in Montessori. Currently, I am certified as a tutor, have tutored over 50 students in the last 3 years, trained to teach ADHD and other neurodivergent challenges.

I look forward to tutoring your student and being at their side while they reach their academic goals!
