Experience: I worked with children for seven years at Head Start, for 3 to 5 years. In the classroom, I worked with them on their letters, shapes, colors, numbers, numeral recognition, and all the skills needed to prepare them for kindergarten using play-based learning. In addition field experience k-3.
Teaching philosophy: Learning best when it is fun, engaging, and encouraging. Thus, learning is a joy and not a chore. I use play-based learning ranging from games, finger plays, and music. in addition to literature. Furthermore, I individualize by getting to know the students and incorporating things they like. For example, to teach a child to count, I would use Candy Land to "counting" finger plays such as "the ants go marching on".
However, I do traditional approaches. For children, in higher grades, help them learn to add, and subtract using counters (drawing them) to help them understand1+ 5=6 or help a child be able to read learning letters to put the words together by modeling first, breaking down words (d-ay), have the child practice, and repetition. Furthermore, I make fun and engaging as possible.
I also tutor in flute and piccolo, I have played the flute and piccolo for 20 years, starting in high school and the church.
Learning never stops, especially for educators. As an educator and lifelong learner to be the best tutor possible.

I love being creative, both in art and music. Music is my first love. I play the flute and piccolo and find music fascinating and how it comes together, especially the keyboard. I also love to draw, color, paint, and use various mediums to make beautiful art and see how the colors mix together.
