Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of Loyola University in New Orleans, LA with a bachelor degree in Communications (Broadcasting). I have also earned my MBA at the University of Pheonix and graduated from Nicholls State University 's (Thibodaux, LA) Alternative Teaching Certificate. I also have a Teaching Certificate from the LA. Board of Education. I got into teaching back in 1991 when a friend of mine, who was a principal in a local middle school, needed a teacher for LEAP remediation. He liked my performance so much that he offered me a teaching position for the next year. I have taught math, science, sociology and social studies from grades 4 to 12. I have even taught a computer course for business majors at Nicholls State.

I am most passionate about teaching math, social studies and business. Math because is so misunderstood. Math hasn't changed for thousands of years, yet students are often "nervous" about it. I like to take the student having problems back to where they last understood the problems and rebuild from there.

I also love all subjects under the social studies area. History, especially American History, is so important. If you don't know where you are coming from, how do you get where you want to be. I believe in having the students discuss the history more than pages of notes. The discussions tend to stay with the student longer.

Another of my favorite subjects is business. Unfortunately, many school systems tend to pay little attention to something most of deal with on a daily manner. I've been in one business or another throughout my life. I started at 14 working with a surveying crew. I have also worked at a tug boat company, movie theater, store manager and insurance sales.

I believe it's the teacher's duty to try to make their subject areas interesting as possible.
