Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of Eastern Virginia Medical School with a PhD in biomedical science. I have been teaching biology and anatomy classes for more than seventeen years at colleges and universities including Texas A & M San Antonio, Christopher Newport University, Tidewater Community College, and Del Mar College. As a biology and anatomy teacher, I feel that my primary job is to facilitate connections between the student and the material that will transform the student's world view and are the very basis of learning. I want to produce students who not only have a solid foundation in biology, but who also have the ability to think critically and independently, who are able to consider the viewpoints of others, and who will go on to become scientifically literate citizens. I believe that the best way to accomplish these goals is to engage students in the material, to link new concepts to familiar ones, and to encourage critical thinking. I routinely use props, my own and other creators' YouTube videos, anecdotes and analogies to deliver otherwise dry material in fresh ways. Ideas that are difficult for students to grasp can be explained in "non-science" ways. It is my belief that every student can be successful if they are given the proper tools and guidance to find study methods that benefit that student the most.
