All learners deserve an advocate in academics. As a seasoned educator with over twenty years combined experience I've had the opportunities to guide students with varying backgrounds. These colorful backgrounds included all level of learners. I helped students acclimate to a new country as well as provide the literacy tools to learn a new language. I also was the creator from the ground up of an Enrichment Program at a small International Baccalaureate private school. Throughout all my experience and background, being a role model and a caring mentor has a always been at the heart of why I am a teacher. I have embraced that students will move mountains for you when they know they're believed in, cared for, and respected .
I received my bachelor's degree from Linfield University and my master's degree from Pacific University. Both degrees were focused on elementary education with an emphasis in literacy.
For the majority of my career I was a public school elementary educator. I taught first through fifth grades, as well as blended grade level classrooms. I was responsible for teaching all subjects with the exception of P.E. and Music. I was a grade level team leader. I was picked to guide and aid my colleagues with their literacy programs. I also spent time as educational assistant at a private school where I was a "jack of all trades" for my peers. From there I was tapped to create and implement an Enrichment Program. This program was meant to screen current and incoming students in regards to their abilities and learning needs. That way any exceptional learners were immediately identified and assisted. I also have extensive experience as a private tutor. My tutoring primarily catered to elementary school aged students. My clientele included a severely learning disabled student all the way to a fifth grade student working at a tenth grade level in literacy. I am quite capable of assisting in all elementary grade level academic subjects. I am exceptionally talented in literacy and all around academic organizational skills.
I look forward to assisting in academic success that centers around a caring and respectful educational relationship. Bringing the best out of my student's is my goal. As an educator I get to know my student's individual personality as well as their academic and emotional needs. From there a plan is created to cater to them and them alone.
