Laura
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of the University of Toronto where I received my Honours Bachelor in Science with a major in Neuroscience and specialist in Psychology. I am currently completing my diploma in Social Service Work at George Brown College. For the past five years I have worked as an English and Mathematics tutor for intermediate and secondary students as well as adults studying at the secondary level. I have also volunteered as a tutor/mentor at various organizations including the On Your Mark program offered by the Working Women's Community Centre in Toronto, which provides free educational support and mentorship for students in the community, the City Adult Learning Centre, which supports adults in attaining secondary education, and I have worked with elementary school students teaching conflict resolution and communication skills through the program Peace by PEACE. While my tutoring subjects are broad, I truly enjoy tutoring Algebra and Geometry as well as supporting students in test preparation and test taking skills, organization, and building career paths. My work with students is always collaborative and creative to support a diverse array of access and learning needs. I strongly encourage student-directed goals and learning so that students can move forward feeling more comfortable and confident in their knowledge, skills and capacity for learning.
