Certified Tutor
Having tutored for over 8 years, I've had widely varied experiences working with students ranging from kindergarten to high school. A flexible and responsive tutor, I believe in guiding students to reach their full potential, rather than forcing them to simply memorize facts and regurgitate them. We should work with kids to understand their learning styles and what best suits their interests and personality, while instilling in them an enduring sense of work ethic and responsibility.
I tutor Math, English, History, Psychology, and most other reading/writing based courses. My favorite subject to tutor is anything writing and language based, as someone who greatly enjoys reading and the arts. It brings me so much joy and satisfaction to help people comprehend or click with a piece of writing, whether it's classic literature, a nonfiction book, poetry, or an academic article. I also have a lot of experience teaching younger kids phonics, reading comprehension, grammar, and other important reading/writing foundational skills. Additionally, I have a solid background of tutoring AP test subjects, especially AP English Language & Composition, American History, and European History. In my time working with VT, I've also had the privilege of helping high school juniors and seniors with their college application essays and planning.
I went to high school in Chicago, and recently graduated from the University of Toronto, specializing in Philosophy with a minor in Physical and Environmental Geography. My future plans include graduate studies at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, which has been greatly influenced by my passion for teaching and interest in pedagogy.
My teaching philosophy is that every single person is good at something, and there are often flexible and creative solutions to improving in areas we aren't so good at by using the skills we ARE good at. Every student has great potential, and my goal is to work WITH them to reach that potential.
Outside of research and academia, I enjoy poetry, music, art, and pop culture.

Undergraduate Degree: University of Toronto - Bachelor of Science, Statistics
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading, music, and art. I'm a writer (novels, songs, poetry, creative nonfiction, etc.) and musician (I play piano and guitar). My favorite singer/songwriter is Taylor Swift (I've been listening to her since the third grade, and it's crazy how long it's been). My favorite author is Maggie Stiefvater, who wrote my favorite young adult series, The Raven Cycle/The Dreamer Trilogy (I also enjoy Percy Jackson, The Hunger Games, etc.). In my free time, I enjoying watching movies and TV shows. I'm currently learning to crochet, and I love to cook. One thing about me is I don't know how to have a boring day--I'm always up to something!
