Certified Tutor

I am a graduate from Northern Kentucky University; I earned a Bachelor of Music in cello performance. My musically academic environment gave me the opportunity to privately teach cello to individuals from ages 8 to 65+, to teach violin/viola/cello to children ages 8-13 in a group orchestra environment, and even to facilitate coordination classes through music and dance to children ages 2-5 in a group setting! As a tutor, I have gotten to empower peers of my own in music theory and aural skills, while getting to enrich children's (K-12) understanding of mathematics.

As a former high school student, an active musician, and a constant student of the world I encounter, I can tutor students in and help them gain self-sufficient facility with: English grammar, elementary-through-collegiate writing, literature, reading comprehension and efficiency (learning to read faster with greater understanding, etc.), mathematics from addition/subtraction to calculus, Earth systems and ecology, music theory/aural skills (aural skills=ear training), basic piano, elementary/intermediate/advanced cello, basic musicianship, and classical music appreciation.

I teach with a philosophy of clarity through compassionate collaboration. I make a priority of learning about my students' individual learning styles, their unique challenges and strengths in their subjects, and about who they are and who they want to become through growth. It is not my job just to teach a subject: it is my job to teach a subject to the unique student in the way that they will understand and retain. Through compassion, I am able to quickly find my students' individual processes to clear understanding by collaborating with them. In my tutelage, it is important to me that my students feel respected and safe such that they understand that they do not lose potential (in the subject at hand or otherwise) by making mistakes. Further, my students use my guidance to bring their self-awareness and intuitive facility to their subjects as independently critical thinkers--my goal is to teach my students self-sufficiency in learning, thinking, and growing such that they are always bringing their best selves to the subjects at hand.
