Certified Tutor

During my almost thirty-year teaching career, I have taught in a variety of settings, such as teaching multi-subjects to patients in a behavioral health hospital, high school AP and Dual-Credit English at a residential school for the Deaf, and First-Year Composition at two universities. I have an extensive background in educating pre-K through college levels of students, including at-risk students, racially and ethnically diverse populations, students with special needs, and second-language learners. My experience has afforded me the opportunity to work with a wide range of student-ability levels. Over the years, I have demonstrated consistent success in motivating students to read and write, along with an outstanding record in helping students raise ACT and other standardized testing scores. Complementing my experience is an intense educational background. I have a Bachelor of Science in Deaf Education, a Master of Arts in English, and a Doctor of Philosophy in English Composition and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

Hobbies

Some of my hobbies include: reading, writing, gardening, swimming, kayaking, camping, amateur astronomy, and leisure bicycle riding. I am a volunteer Park Ranger in my home town. I am rated Advanced in the American Sign Language Communication Proficiency Interview Assessment.
