Certified Tutor

Hello, my name is Jacob Prall. I've instructed students of all ages across many disciplines, and even across continents. As a student, I loved to learn - but I sympathized with my friends and peers who struggled. During my educational career, I spent time tutoring the subjects that brought me joy, and sharing that enthusiasm with students who were otherwise struggling was as fun as it was gratifying.

I've always been a passionate learner with many interests. My bachelor's degree program included coursework in economics, political science, philosophy, history, sociology, theater arts, english, poetry and more. Needless to say, I graduated with a hodgepodge of degrees and certifications! All the while, I instructed students K-12 in acting, voice, and math. When I studied French in France, I had the opportunity to begin tutoring English.

After graduation, I received my TEFL certification, and taught English in South Korea. This experience solidified my teaching philosophy. My Korean students provided a great deal of insight into what makes for an excellent teacher and an excellent student. I taught everyone from first time English learners to TOEFL prep students, and each level and age group strengthened my abilities as a teacher and communicator.

I am currently a substitute in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area. I am now able to bring my expertise in classroom management and education, as well as my subject mastery, to students everyday.

I look forward to working with you and your student as they take on what is an increasingly competitive and stressful educational environment. I believe that relevancy, context and finding personal connections with material is the best way to ensure information sticks around for good. It also leads to a student enjoying themselves in the process!
