Certified Tutor

I began tutoring in fourth grade when I decided to teach my younger brother, who was in first grade, the long division I'd just learned. He succeeded enough for me to end our session at my tiny blackboard after a long afternoon and went on to know way more math than me as an adult. (He likes to remind me of this fact often.)

While earning my degrees (I have a B.A. and M.A. in English Literature), I worked in my university's Writing Center helping students with their writing in all subject areas at the college level. I also taught Composition 101 to college freshmen. After I graduated, I taught high school English for three years. I taught AP/Dual Credit Senior English as well as Freshman and Sophomore English. I then moved to New York to focus on my own writing.

My expertise is in English Literature, but I am well versed in all areas of composition and English test prep. I've helped ESL students past state tests for the first time. I've created individualized and equally rigorous assignments based on IEPs. I was nominated as Campus Teacher of the Year in 2015.

I love tutoring students to become better writers. I believe all students are capable of excellence. With effort and accessible instruction, any student can succeed in reading and composition. My goal as a tutor is to use my skills to aid students on their personal journey to success.

I like to make my sessions as individualized as possible. I ask a lot of questions to find the best course of action. It's important to me to know my student's strengths, goals, and context. I'm excited to work with you!
