Certified Tutor

Preparing for standardized tests, completing college applications, and just dealing with high school on the whole can be a very stressful experience (I know first-hand) and I would love to try and help anyone have an easier time! I graduated from high school last year, so I have some college experience under my belt, but I'm not in so deep that I can't remember what it was like to go through high school. I'm back home in Atlanta for the summer right now, but I'm currently a rising second-year at Grinnell College, a highly-acclaimed small liberal arts school in Iowa, and I'm loving it there! I'm working towards a BA in English and German...so it might make sense that the subjects I love tutoring most are English and German! I'm especially good at taking standardized tests for English Language Arts (the ACT Reading section is my favorite) and can't wait to share my favorite tips with students. In high school I was a volunteer peer mentor for ELA through the National Honor Society, so I'm great at tutoring people close to me in age in an entirely non-condescending manner. I've also been taking German every year since the fourth grade, and along the way have learned a lot of awesome different teaching strategies for the language. I'd definitely be willing to help anyone, regardless of skill level, improve their German!

Outside of school, I work as a waitress and definitely have a passion for good food (I cook a little too). I also love to play the cello, read novels and creative non-fiction, go on runs, and listen to music (all genres, but I have a penchant for indie rock). I'm friendly and down-to-earth, both of which are traits that carry into my teaching style! I believe that no questions are dumb questions and that everyone has a unique learning style that should be encouraged and not worked against. I can't wait to meet you!
