Lawrence
Certified Tutor
I am a proud product of the University of California system. I received by Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in Neuroscience from the University of California, Davis. I decided to pursue a medical career and received my Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of California, San Francisco. As a medical student, I tutored junior medical students and also led small group discussions that are a hallmark of the UCSF curriculum. With my background, I enjoy teaching the biological sciences the most but also consider myself a student of chemistry, history, and geography. Currently, I am a resident in general surgery at the University of California, Irvine and I am taking time off clinical duties to complete a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Michigan. Throughout my studies and my experience, I have learned that the most effective tutoring involves active participation and true partnership between tutor and student. In other words, my main job as a tutor is to facilitate learning and help my students master the topics not by pure didactic methods but rather by tackling learning challenges together. Outside of work, I love traveling, exploring the outdoors through hiking and kayaking, relaxing on the beach, and finding new places to eat.
