Hello, world!
I am a New York City–based musician; I freelance full-time as a composer, arranger, orchestrator, pianist, vocalist, music director, etc. I have a bachelors degree in music composition and piano performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Music is my life-long passion. But right alongside my love for music is my love for languages. Learning another language is much like opening a window to examine and explore another culture, often in brilliant, intimate detail. Of particular interest to me are language studies, language acquisition, and the anthropological and sociopolitical threads that are so beautifully interwoven through the use of words and expression. Besides English, I speak (to varying conversational degrees) Spanish, German, and Japanese. Living in New York City, however, provides an amazing cornucopia of so many of the world's languages and cultures, and I take every opportunity I can to make a connection with them.
I'm also an avid reader, a latent (but perhaps budding) writer, a lover of games, and (as one savvy enough to recognize from my greeting above might guess) a nascent computer programmer. I'm currently enrolled in CS50x, an online version of the Intro to Computer Science course taught at Harvard and Yale, and I'm really digging it.
