I'm a graduate of Washington State University with a BA in English who is looking to help others expand their knowledge of literature. I find the analysis of literature to be very interesting and hope to inspire those I work with to feel the same way. I am most versed in early American literature but am familiar with many other types as well. I seek to promote close reading strategies and emphasis on aesthetic analysis.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Introduce myself and get to know the student briefly. Find out their previous experience with the subject matter. Discuss their availability and set up a schedule.
What is your teaching philosophy?
Listen to the student at as many points in the teaching process as possible. Decide which routes to take dependent on the student's understanding.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By confronting the student with seemingly open-ended discussion questions. These are questions that encourage the student to address the subject matter critically.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Amplify their previous successes. Remind them of their stated goals.
