I have been tutoring since high school and graduated college with a Bachelors in Exercise Science a few years ago. I really enjoy interacting with students. I am married and am helping my husband finish his Bachelor's in Accounting. I hope to get a Masters soon.

What is your teaching philosophy?
The more a student practices problem-solving, the more familiar they become with the material; and they will succeed.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I will introduce myself and get to know the student. I may ask some questions such as how they are feeling and what are they concerned about regarding the subject. I would also explain the subject, and then ask them to practice with my assistance.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
If a student has a passion for a subject, they will want to learn. I am very passionate about learning and would do all I can to help them feel that way about the subject as well.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I give a lot of praise. I also help them keep things in perspective. For example, if they pull up their grade in a certain class, they will be more likely to attend the university they would like to attend.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I approach subjects from all different areas to ensure a concept is properly explained in a simple and thorough manner. If all else fails, I give a practice question, and that usually covers it.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
The more you read, the better chance you have of comprehending it. I would encourage them to read all the time. This would include things they are interested in. If that includes comic books or magazines, I would have them read that.
