What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would present myself, share some information about me, and then I would ask the student about his/her school, what does s/he want to learn, what help does s/he need, the books s/he is using...
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
-
Giving the student the resources s/he needs for the learning process. * Teaching him/her how to use these resources. * Showing him/her some practical examples before s/he tries alone. * If it is possible, show the student how to correct his/her own answers.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
One of the things students must understand is that mistakes don't exist. What we call "mistakes" are stages of the learning process. We must learn from the "mistakes" and not get frustrated.
