What is your teaching philosophy?

Anybody can learn something if they put their mind to it, and have somebody else helping them learn how to put their mind to it.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get to know them, make sure they are comfortable with me and will ask me questions, and then see what their main concerns are.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Let them ask questions, but encourage them to do everything they can to find an answer for themselves first.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Share my own experiences with learning, my own failures and successes, and then see where their expectations are and make a plan with them to see how those can be met.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Have them read books they like and start on a level they understand, and then work up slowly until I know they are grasping things.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

By quizzing, and going over past material to make sure it has all sunk in.
