Khilia
Certified Tutor
I am entering my third year as a seventh grade Life Science teacher. I enjoy finding innovative way to help students understand academic material. I began gaining experience as a tutor during my undergraduate matriculation at Norfolk State University.
I am able to work all year; however, because I am a teacher, my hours of availability will change. During the summer and holiday breaks, my availability will be open. During the school year, I will be available during the evenings and weekends.
I look forward to continuing to help young people understand math and/or science concepts.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe education should be fun and informative. I like creating mnemonic devices, songs, and rhyme schemes to help students remember information.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I think any student can become an independent learner once their interest is sparked. I like to make connections between academic content and real life.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
During a first session with a student, I would assess their current knowledge of content and find out what piques their interest. That way I can provide assistance to them in a way that they will maintain their interests in future sessions. I would also establish goals with the student.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would create a song, mnemonic device, play a game or do activities for practice.
