What is your teaching philosophy?
Students learn most effectively when the teacher is inspired, motivated, and loves the subject.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Introduction, ice-breakers, fun games to engage the students' attention, and trivial problems to assess the students' knowledge on the subject.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By encouraging the students to utilize resources (online, library, peers, etc.) when doing their work. Guiding instead of showing.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
By varying the difficulty of the problems assigned to make the students realize their progress and improvement. By keeping the tutoring atmosphere fun and interactive.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Thorough explanation and demonstration. Plenty of practice problems. Online resources to aid to the understanding.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Annotation, thinking as they read the passage, and breaking the reading into smaller pieces to analyze.
