Nicole
Certified Tutor
Hi Students! My name is Nicole and I am a Registered Dietitian in the state of Connecticut. I graduated from Keene State College with a Bachelor's Degree in Health Science with a concentration in Nutrition and a minor in psychology. I currently educate students in both individual and group settings on important aspects of nutrition and human biology. In addition to my current position, I am looking to widen and share my experiences for tutoring biology and science through Varsity Tutors. My experience began with helping my younger brother with his homework and has grown and developed through various tutoring and mentor positions in high school and college. I have passionately been providing educational support to a variety of grades and subjects for over 5 years. I am looking forward to personalizing each tutoring session to provide the highest quality support to meet your learning needs.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I like to get to know the student, what their expectations are for tutoring, how they like to learn, and what they would like to focus on (study skills, content, review, homework help, etc.).
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I believe communication is key. I am open with students and encourage them to be honest about their struggles and how they would like the sessions to go. I like to have a set schedule of when we will be working together, and I provide a few goals to work on for the upcoming sessions.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
If a student is aware of their learning style, I will always cater to how they learn best. If they are not, that is one of the first things we will identify together. Once we have an understanding of how the student learns, we will work together to find the techniques that help the student learn best. I love providing handouts, visuals, hands-on activities, and quizzes.
