After earning my BA in English from the University of Oklahoma, I decided I wanted to use my skills in writing and in tutoring to help students. I will be working full-time through AmeriCorps with 8th graders, and I want to help more students through personal tutoring. I know the difference an education can make in the life of a person, and I want to share my love of learning with young people!

What is your teaching philosophy?
I work to create a personal connection with the student and to make the subject interesting and applicable to his or her life.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would get to know the student's interests and ask the student to describe his or her learning style. I would ask what goals he or she has for the subject area.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Asking the student questions often helps to engage and to make him or her an independent learner.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Allowing a student to set his or her own goals and checking in on the progress made towards these goals is a good way to help a student stay motivated.
