Since starting my career as a teacher I have prided myself with creating a personal bond with my students. Not only does this set the student at ease, but it also allows me to identify how the students learns best. Learning can be a cause for anxiety. I like to build a relationship with my students and help them face fears about areas of anxiety. I have multiple ways of presenting content so that each student can discover which way works best for them. My goal is to get each student confident with a given material so that they can perform with ease.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I am excited to tutor because I enjoy the education process, which is why I am a high school teacher. I believe students learn best when the content can be personalized. There are multiple ways to differentiate content so that each student can learn.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would like to get to know the student. It is important to find out how the student learns best.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

When you give students the tools to become independent learners, their confidence will increase.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Students can do well with regular check-ins or with an organizational system.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Providing differentiation ensures that each student can learn by their preferred method.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

In order to determine why the student is struggling, I would have a conversation with them. Often times, a student can give you the answer as to why they are struggling. Once you identify the problem, you can find tools to help the student. Tools may include annotation techniques, repetition, or online resources to help boost confidence.
