Certified Tutor
I am a Chinese lady who has been living in US for almost seven years! I am an outgoing, respectful and kind person. I am a software engineer right now working in a company in downtown. My hobbies include reading, running and doing some shopping in my leisure time.
I love tutoring and communicating with students. Sharing knowledge and experience with people is my biggest interest. I have relevant experience several years ago when I was in China. I taught a six year old girl Chinese, English, and Math. That girl's mom was very happy when she saw that her daughter can write Chinese diary and started speaking English. I was also recommended by my professor in college to tutor a middle school girl both math and English. And because of my tutoring, that girl's study performance in both math and English greatly improved.
I am very patient while teaching and know how to make a student motivated to learn. Since each student has a different characteristic, I can use different way of teaching accordingly to help them learn effectively. I am a native Chinese speaker, and I have experience of teaching. I have ability to teach student effectively. I like to have students see that studying Chinese is fun and not a difficult task.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Make the student feel like learning is fun, not a burden or a task.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
To introduce myself and have students introduce themselves. I would try to make students feel like I am a friendly tutor. I'd also ask them their goals or purpose of learning so that I can get a better idea about how to teach them.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Teach them the method of learning and studying.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Make the learning process fun and relate the study content to real life or what they are interested in.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Try to explain in different ways-- patiently.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I will give them simple practices at the beginning and increase the level of difficulty little by little. I also will teach them the method of effective reading.
