Bria

Certified Tutor

I am a tutor specializing in Reading and History. I have always been a big advocate for Reading and Writing. The beauty of language and understanding our past plays a big part in how effectively we work to create our future, which is why I have started and edit my own publication, Athens New Renaissance magazine.

I love sharing language and communication with people, and use my high energy as well as my sharp editing to make the most out of their experience and skill. I work to build the confidence in my students that later becomes central to their advancement, so that they can glean the most value from their work and achieve academic successes.

What is your teaching philosophy?

A student should enjoy learning. Despite the difficulty level of the subject, it is the instructor's job to encourage the application of critical thinking and relevance to the course. Students should be encouraged to develop problem solving strategies, and the instructor is there to push forth this ability! A tutor/teacher is a cheerleader and a coach, and each student is a star player!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Getting to know the student is extremely important. Taking the first session to understand him/her and seeing where they stand with their course will help incredibly in the long run. The student and I will surely jump into the work as well! Seeing how they operate and understand will allow us to make goals and plans for the following weeks.
