I am a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I received my Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Health with a minor in Urban and Regional Planning. Since graduation, I worked as an elementary school teacher in Detroit, Michigan as a 2012 Teach for America Corps member, I am most passionate about English, Math and Reading.I am currently a founding kindergarten teacher at KIPP Columbus Elementary where I have the honor to work with talented students everyday. In my experience working with elementary students I have seen tremendous growth in the area of reading and math because I work hard to bring these two subjects to life so students can reach their fullest potential. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading that which enriches my life, as well as spending time with friends and family.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that every child deserves the right to a great education, and that every child can learn and do exceptional things.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would like to first get to know that student by asking them questions about themselves, like their favorite things to do when they are and aren't in school. What do they like most about school, etc.?
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
You can help a student become an independent learner by equipping them with the tools necessary to be efficient. This means to me that reading is key.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
To help a student stay motivated, I like to constantly give them positive praise and encouragement during the lesson.
