Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and Arizona State University. I received my Master of Science in Accountancy from Notre Dame with a focus on Taxation. I received my Bachelor of
Science in Accountancy from Arizona State. Since graduation, I have worked in public accounting and tutoring individuals from elementary school ages through young adults in a variety of subjects. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most experienced in Mathematics but have a strong base for English and Essay Writing. I believe a well rounded education is important for success in life and a strong understanding of Mathematics is necessary. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing/watching sports, watching movies, and being outdoors as much as the Arizona heat will allow.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My approach to teaching varies from student to student. I have the experience to adjust my teaching techniques to best match the student to help each individual student improve in the way that best helps them learn.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
At the very beginning, I like to ask the student what they believe their issues are and let them show me their struggles so I can best help them.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By teaching the student ways to overcome their learning challenges, teachers help them to work through a process unique to their skill set to succeed in the future on their own.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I focus on showing improvement, whether it is a small score increase, solving problems faster, being able to explain the process on their own, or just knowing when they need help and how to ask for it. These are all improvements over how the student was approaching their studies before tutoring, and they allow for future growth.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I try multiple approaches until I find a way that makes sense to the student.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I start with the student telling me about their day and focusing on the details, and then I do the same. Once the student can pick up on the small details in an oral story, they will better be able to pick up those details in written form.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I start with having the student teach me until they are stuck, and then we verbally working through multiple ways to think about it.
