Listening is the key to being a good reader. By actively listening to the English Language in conversation and listening to it on the page we come to love its power and its pleasures. As a REACH Mentor at Regis High School and an Activity Head at Brewster Day Camp, I've learned that listening is just as important in being a good teacher. Each child has a different relationship with language, and improving that relationship is impossible without first understanding it.

English isn't just a subject taught in school; it's how we access the people and ideas around us. As a tutor, my goal is not only to prepare students for the tests and essays that will be used to evaluate them, but also to give them the skills they need to prosper as members of an English-speaking society.
