I spent four years at the University of Missouri in Columbia majoring in English and History. In the time I spent there, I mostly worked with friends who felt like they needed help writing papers, personal statements, or simple responses for classes, but in my senior year I got the chance to substitute for one of my previous professors. This sparked my interest in tutoring, and the year after I graduated I tutored student athletes at the university in English, History and Mythology classes.
I believe that all students are highly capable, they just need the proper tools to gain the confidence to succeed. Some students simply don't have all the information they need to do something well, but this doesn't mean that they are automatically "bad" at reading or writing papers. I try to help students develop the skills they need so that they can move forward with confidence and continue to improve.
I have been reading my whole life, and I have done a lot of creative writing, so I have a great love of words. I am particularly fond of Shakespeare (although there are a lot of students who don't agree with me!) but I also have experience reading other European and American literature. My history experiences covers Europe, America, and Latin America, although I have a special fondness for Tudor England (think Henry VIII and his wives), early American history, and classical cultures, like ancient Rome. I think that everybody can develop a love for history, they just need to approach it in the right way!
