The TASC Math exam is one of five included in the Test Assessing Secondary Completion series to enable adults to earn the equivalent of a high school diploma in certain states. If you need a little bit of help preparing for it, Varsity Tutors can set you up with a TASC Math tutor to guide your studies.
Here are the concepts that you may review during TASC tutoring sessions:
- Numbers and Quantity (13%)
- Algebra (26%)
- Functions (26%)
- Geometry and Measurement (23%)
- Probability and Statistics (12%)
The TASC Math exam is divided into two distinct sections. Part 1 lasts for 55 minutes, and you are permitted to use a calculator. Part 2 lasts 50 minutes, and calculators are not permitted. You are also provided a reference table containing various formulas to help you on both parts of the exam. There are a total of 43 multiple-choice questions between the two parts, giving you a fair amount of time per question. However, you still need to manage your time wisely. Your TASC Mathematics tutor may show you how to answer questions without a calculator or the reference table to save some time. If you need to use the tools available to you, your tutor may also show you how to do so as efficiently as possible. Likewise, TASC Math tutoring sessions are a great place to take practice exams to increase your familiarity with the exam's directions and formatting. Reviewing the results may also reveal strengths and weaknesses that you did not realize you had. For example, if you're great at algebra but not as strong in geometry, your TASC prep may concentrate on the latter.
