Who are you? by Zoie - November 2014 Scholarship Essay
What classifies the name “freshman?” Who made that up? Basically, it seems to come down to the fact that “fresh” means new and man of course is human. New human beings in a new school.
If I could give one piece of advice to an oncoming freshman, it would be not to lose yourself, never lose your best friend, and do not use the counselors as your venter. The counselors are there to help with educational needs, not social lives; that is what a best friend is for. Use the buddy system. Try new things with that person, so you do not feel so alone, so you have a second opinion on what the instructor or director says about the topic. A best friend is to be there through out the tough times, no matter how tough. If you lose your best friend, or yourself, it’ll more than likely come out that both are lost. Maintain one, and the other will more than likely stay, too. Stay away from all the immaturity and drama, as well. It keeps the chances of losing your best friend to a minimum.
Being a freshman does not mean that you have to stick out like a sore thumb, or even that you do at all. It just means new people in a new place.
