A Little Goes a Long Way by Zoe - January 2014 Scholarship Essay
As a student athlete, your day is inevitably the coaches. Sometimes they feel as though they have the right to keep at practice as long as they feel necessary. While running sprints to finish the day, I always begin to worry about the homework and other responsibilities I have waiting for me back home. I have found it is extremely helpful to study for big examinations or quizzes by doing little things throughout the day to lessen the load at night.
Days before a big test, or just a few minutes before I leave for a practice, I often will record, on my phone, a few notes or vocabs words that are essential to the test. Then, instead of listening to music on the way to practice, I'll listen to my information. Little things like this will help me to remember whats important for the next days examination.
Its important to use common tools like flashcards to help you study. They provide a great way to rehearse the necessary information easily and quickly. I like to keep mine near me at all times, so whenever I have a spare moment I can quickly take them out and get a few minutes of studying out of the way.
Simple tools like these have allowed me to succeed in courses that I struggled to find time in after practice. On several occasions I worried that I wouldn't have enough energy to complete any homework that nights practice, but I didn't need to waste valuable time and brain energy on worrying because I knew I had already gotten some studying done all day long. I have been able to live with less stress about studying by taking simple actions to get ahead throughout the day.
