Every aspect is a great aspect by Zenab - November 2020 Scholarship Essay
With the background that I have, I cannot determine which aspect of education I am most thankful for. Instead, I can only say that having an education at all is what I am most thankful for. Growing up in Guinea, Conakry, and being fortunate enough to attend school was very exciting. My family was of the lucky few that could afford to send me to school. Unfortunately, I couldn’t say the same about the poorer neighbors down the dirt road. Being able to be educated in Africa was a great privilege. kids in Conakry could only dream of holding a book to read. Not everybody has a story like mine to describe what education means. Those that don’t have to understand their fortune.
Education is incredibly important to me. If you can have it, you must take it. My family in Africa reminds me constantly of their longing to be educated. Education is a great privilege and shouldn’t be taken for granted. Knowledge is a great power. When I came back to America, I had no understanding of English. Beginning school felt like I was stepping into a new life. I needed extensive assistance in every classroom. My classmates progressed while I struggled to get through every assignment. With time and persistence, my English improved. It took taking everyday step by step to assimilate. Every word learned was a new accomplishment.
Communication is crucial to humans and I was pleased to learn a new form of it. Not only that but I was being educated the way people in Conakry want to be. My teachers are the real heroes for giving me something so invaluable. Although I came to America knowing 4 languages other than English. I made space for one more great language. I left so many in Conakry that would do anything to have the opportunities I have. Therefore, my education is very important to me. Every aspect of education is a great aspect. I love taking every opportunity to learn.
