Nobel Prize Recipient Qualities by Zariah - December 2018 Scholarship Essay
The Nobel Prize recipients of the past are known for their dedication to their field and their contribution to humankind. These are essential attributes for a dedicated chemist, physicist, writer, economist, advocate of peace, or medical researcher. If I were on the committee for choosing Nobel Prize winners, the characteristics I would look for in a Nobel Prize recipient are perseverance and nobility.
Perseverance means persistence in doing something, such as ongoing medical research for cancer. I would want the winner to persevere in their research or work because it demonstrates their passion for their work and field of study. If you do not love what you do, you would waste your time on it and you would not give your best work for something you are not ardent about.
Nobility means being honest and having integrity. This is perhaps even more important than perseverance because passing off someone’s work as your own is both illegal and a reputation destroyer. No matter how long you work on something, and you do not get recognition, it is not just to be dishonest about your work.
Overall, I believe that perseverance and nobility are the most important characteristics I would look for in a Nobel Prize recipient if I were on the panel for nominating a winner. These traits display a strength in character which is important in all aspects of a career. These characteristics show passion and respect for their field and their colleagues because they choose to do what’s right and put effort into their work.
