GPA by zachary - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
I was in my AVID class today, and my teacher was giving us a lecture about what college are looking for in future students. I would like to believe that I know a lot about college admissions requirements and that this lecture did not apply to me, but one area caught my attention. “GPA” This term is more commonly know as grade point average.
I am an A- B student who has taken honors classes but no Advanced Placement classes. I make great grades in my classes; however, honors classes do not raise your GPA as much as Advanced Placement classes can.
I looked at my GPA, a 3.3…… I was astonished, only a 3.3. My teacher said that most colleges prefer a 3.5-4.0 or higher weighted GPA. I was in trouble, and I was running out of time to improve my GPA. But, a new year is here, and it is time to make a resolution. I did the math to discover what I need to do to get a 4.0 GPA by the end of this year. I need to get a 95 in 3 classes and a 100 in the other 4 classes. My counselor told me that it is very possible for me to make these grades. For that to happen, I just need to improve by a small percentage.
I am ready and able to make that improvement, and I am proud to say that by the end of the year this A-B student will have a 4.0 GPA. I plan to accomplish this goal by meeting with my teachers early in the semester and asking everyday how I can improve my grade. I can also do extra credit and attend Saturday school to improve my grades. I look forward to the opportunity to try to do everything I can in order to achieve this goals.
