Gamming by Zachary - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

I have played video games my whole life. They have helped me cope with daily life; it is an escape if I have had a stressful day. I want to be part of a creative team to make the games that helped me throughout my life.
Ten years from now, I plan to be programming and designing video games for Bethesda Softworks and their subsidiaries. Their headquarters is just north of Washington, D.C., and they have offices in Europe and Asia. I will be one of their top game programmers and be in a position to train and mentor others to be the best that they can be. I am excited about the work and knowing that my work can help others in the world to relax and regroup from the stresses of the day, keep me wanting to strive to be the best designer that I can be.
I believe a college education will enhance my life by giving me the opportunity to go out on my own and meet new people. Getting into this new environment will give me new experience to draw on to create new video game themes. This fall, I will be pursuing a degree in game design and programming. The course work will allow me to learn the fundamentals in the art of video game design and the knowledge of the programming tools and languages. I don’t think I could make my career in video game industry without college. When researching for Bethesda Softworks, they are looking for people with a lot of knowledge in this field and I believe that the way to fulfill this requirement is to get a degree.
This is a transition that I am excited to take, even though it is a scary step for me. I have overcome so many obstacles and reached many of my goals; so I am going to make this goal attainable. College is the first step to reach my ten year goal of working for Bethesda Softworks as one of their top programmer and designer.
