Finals Week by Zachary - April 2019 Scholarship Essay
When I first started college, I was not sure what to expect. My parents or grandparents never attended college so I could not get any advice from them. I was very doubtful of myself and how I would perform in college. I always heard how hard college was and how I was going to be broke trying to afford the books for my classes. My first year of college started better than I ever expected. I became involved with various organizations such as honor societies and the accounting club. I became leaders of two of the organizations. College felt like a breath of fresh air to me. I was excelling in all of my courses and even earned some awards for having the highest grade point average in the class.
Then the Spring semester of my Freshman year, the final exam schedule came out. I started planning out my final exam schedule and noticed a problem. The problem was that I would have to take three of my final exams at the same time. When I figured out about this problem, I had no clue how to resolve this problem. In high school, the final exams were given out on the last day of class, so I never had to worry about planning final exams around each other. At first, I contacted my professors to see how to fix this problem and never got a response back. I went to my advisor at the time, and she told me that I would have to take all three at the same time. I knew that if I had to take the three exams at the same time, I would be putting my college career in danger. I knew that if I wanted to ace my finals, I would have to do something about it. So, I scheduled an appointment with the dean of the college. I told her about the particular problem, and we sat down together and planned out my finals so that I would not have any finals on the same day. I went on and aced every single one of my final exams. I could have listened to my advisor and taken the three finals at the same time and probably would have failed one of them, but I took control over my grades and decided to set myself for the best chance for success.
