True Story: The Impact of My Mind, Body, & Spirit by Zach - December 2013 Scholarship Essay
My Extracurricular activity I participated in school was football, I love the memories I posses and the feeling I get from remembering all the good times I shared with my brothers on my team and my program. I have learned too much in football to say that is was just a sport, for me, football is my success even if I don't play it anymore. The most important things I learned from football were that your mind, body, and spirit are all linked together equally, I had no knowledge of this prior to my high school football career. The reason I can state this is because of the following; in football you physically throw your body up against another or several other human beings' bodies, your mental state of mind can be the difference between your success and your demise, and then you have your spirit which drives you to do what you must in order to keep from becoming obliterated by another or several other human beings at once.
Physically I am undersized for football, even though I reside as taller and more muscular than most individuals, I had to battle with more technique than the guys across from me. Technique in football allows for you to control another human being even if they are three times your size. I learned that if I follow directions from my superior coaches and apply the basic fundamentals, I can win almost every time guaranteed. Now, that I have mastered this easy formula for physicality, I use it in my everyday day life for anything I do whether it be; weight lifting, writing an essay, or being in the workforce. Physically in order to do something, you have to do the basics necessary to succeed in order to advance another level, like learning to walk and now being able to sprint. The basics must be done.
Mentality is the mind, and if you don't have a stable mentally than you won't be able to function sufficiently enough to succeed in this world. When your mind is at ease then you can begin to build your mentality, for example; my mentality I created for playing football works universally for myself. It screams," I will work harder than the guys across from me". Hard work is used globally, and in order for your hard work to beat another person's hard work, you need to be having more fun than they are. Let your fun guide you, if you work hard aimlessly than you never know where you will end up, if you work hard and have fun doing it, you won't ever regret where you will end up.
Spiritually I am unstoppable and it is because I never quit on myself. Through my own personal beliefs and the character traits that I demonstrate, I am able to put myself in the mood I need to be in. You have to have the right attitude about yourself before you can have the right mentality to fight for yourself. Your spirit defines who you are because it is shaped the way you treat it. Your mentality will take you farther than you think possible and for that to be true, you have to honestly believe in yourself when you say," One more rep!". Treating yourself with respect goes along way for your the longevity of your future, it requires you to take care of yourself physically like; stretching, icing, and warming up before you engage in any physical activity.
Football used to be a way of life for me and through that way of life, I learned your mind, body, and spirit all combine to give you extraordinary benefits to making yourself a successful person.
