The present is my future by Yvette - March 2025 Scholarship Essay

When I was younger than I am now, my mom used to always remind me that I need to start learning how to live independently. I disliked when she did that because it’s not like I had anything to worry about in terms of paying bills, or any other adult responsibilities. In 10 years, I will be twenty-six, meaning I am sixteen right now, and adulthood couldn’t seem any closer. Whatever I do now will determine the next ten years of my life. For me to be happy in those years, I have to envision what I want for myself now in order for it to happen. By twenty-six, I will have finished my bachelor's degree in nursing, and I will have explored different nursing specialties, especially psychiatry. I will be getting ready to begin my master's degree in nursing, either as a nurse practitioner or as a certified registered nurse anesthetist. I will have lived in different parts of the United States because one of the other areas of nursing I explored was travel nursing. I will feel passion for my career every day because it will have been very rewarding that I have impacted so many people, whether by physically caring for them or by simply being there as someone they can talk to about anything. I will be someone who is very active and loves to do spontaneous and random hobbies and activities that make me enjoy life to the fullest. I will have visited Switzerland, specifically Iseltwald because that is where my all-time favorite show recorded some of their scenes. Speaking of shows, I will have completed watching so many shows and movies that I could not watch while in college because I was, so unfortunately, studying very hard. I will not have bought a house yet because I am still young and I will not want to settle down anywhere permanently yet, until I find the right person to do it with, but I will have two cats and one dog who will be by my side no matter what. Of course I cannot do any of this without a college education. Not only will my dreams in nursing not be accomplished without a degree from college, but to be educated and independent as a woman will be especially rewarding. I want my time during college to be a time where I made mistakes and stepped out of my comfort zone and learned from experiences that I can’t even imagine right now at sixteen. Overall, college will contribute to my success, and I will be able to accomplish everything stated above.
