I would like to have dinner with Abraham Lincoln by Yudith - October 2017 Scholarship Essay

Abraham Lincoln was born in Illinois and I am live in Illinois. He was a very interesting person. As everyone knows, he freed the slaves. People say that it's not because he wanted to, but I beg to differ. Abraham Lincoln hated slavery. Maybe the reason others think that he didn’t want to free the slaves was that he was very lenient with the south and he was married to a southern woman. Although this is all true, it doesn't take from the fact that he hated slavery. The reason he was lenient on the south was that he was afraid of guerilla warfare and his wife’s family was from the south. He tried his best to please everyone, even though we know it's very hard to please everyone.

The reason I want to have lunch with Abraham Lincoln, if he was alive, is because I want to see his point of view on things and why exactly he thought this way. He seemed like a decent man and he was a modern man in his own time. No one truly knows what went on in the past, but the people that were actually there. Only Abraham Lincoln knows what he was doing. I would like to ask him what he would have done if he wasn’t assassinated on that day.
