Prayers by Yosselin - November 2018 Scholarship Essay

As a senior we always worry about what college would we go to, what our senior yearbook quote would be or the little things that many can see as unimportant. Throughout senior year many things impact us in our daily life that changes our perspective of life. The things that impact us are shown. Many seniors choose their favorite quote from their favorite show. Or others choose the experiences they went through. Just like the other half, I’m one of them. I always heard that senior year is the best year but the reality it is the complete opposite of what they say. As a senior in high school I’m always stressing and worrying about my classes, applying to colleges, financial aid, and scholarships. On a sunny afternoon, I was studying for the AP Calculus exam. One of the things I was studying were graphs, and one of the ways I study is by writing while I try to memorize. As I kept jotting them down, I kept getting them incorrectly which frustrated me. As time passed, it was midnight that I was able to memorize graphs. After being pleased with the results I told myself, “I’m the answer to all my prayers” as a little joke. But the more I thought about it, I decided to make this my senior quote. This quote means a lot to me because I’m the one that knows all the answers to problems and I should rely only on myself. Although this may sound ironic since many pray to God to problem-solve their mistakes, the reality is that God is not always going to help you. So, who are you going to rely on? Yourself, maybe your family and friends may be there to support you but not solve your issues. This quote says a lot about my character which is being realistic, determined, patient, independent, and hardworking.
