My Three Secrets to a Successful Project by Yash - December 2017 Scholarship Essay

I personally love planning ahead in order to reduce stress, so I have decided to take as many dual enrolled and advanced placement classes as possible in order to get myself prepared for college. I am taking seven this year alone and have many intense, elaborate projects assigned to me. For this reason, I have honed my project skills and have three distinct skills or “phases” that I go through in order to make the best project possible. The first thing that I make sure to do is proper research. Any project, no matter how well done, would be a flop without proper facts. I make sure to get proper scholarly sources and cite them correctly in order to avoid the dreadful act of plagiarism. The second skill that I use to my advantage is thinking outside of the box. Too many projects in this day in age follow the same basic template of using a powerpoint or cutout board in order to show what the student has learned. However, I believe that the best project is a homemade video or a proper visual that conveys everything that is desired. I took Advanced Placement U.S. History last year and it was the most challenging class that I have ever taken. For one of the projects given in class, I decided to write a rap and rap it while recording a video of a number of pictures that I had drawn. This allows the audience to hear an explanation in a pleasing manner and also see what I was describing. I have learned that this is the best way to present projects because it gets the audience engaged. The last skill that I use to my advantage is my knowledge. I know this isn’t a true skill, but I consider myself as an avid learner and try my hardest to grasp everything throughout the class period. This allows me to have an upper hand and look back on what I have learned in order to incorporate everything I learned in class. This shows the audience that the internet shouldn’t be the only means of research and paying attention in class is more rewarding. These are my three skills that deliver good grades for me and allow me to survive the intense amount of work I receive.
