Studying abroad may be challenging by Yanisleidy - March 2016 Scholarship Essay
Studying abroad is something every student should do. Nevertheless, I do not think it should be required for all college students to study abroad. As born and raised in another country, I understand how helpful it is to know more than one culture, especially one that is common for many countries in South and Central America. Studying abroad opens the student’s mind to a different culture, which can make a difference in the diverse country we are leaving today and the social issues that diversity creates. Learning a different language in the country it is spoken increase the ability to learn more and quicker, making the time abroad productive.
On the other hand, I do not think that all student college should be required to study abroad. Online classes have come for many reasons, and the most important is to allow busy people get a degree while at home. I personally have a very busy life. If I were required to study abroad, I would not be able to complete my degree program. I would like to study abroad, especially Europe, but, because I have a daughter to take care, a job with personal responsibilities and financial needs, I cannot take classes abroad. If studying abroad were a requirement, my dream of earning a Bachelor’s Degree would be impossible.
I believe other methods can be implemented or improved to encourage abroad studying, for example, giving a double amount of credit for classes abroad. That may encourage more students for the adventure. In addition, scholarships awarded for abroad studying are limited.
