Discuss an organization you are part of- academic or community based- and has it impacted you for the better? by Xavy - December 2019 Scholarship Essay

I am apart of AVID I've been in AVID for about three years now. This class can be stressful at times but its all to prepare me for what challenges lie ahead in college. Over the last three years, AVID has prepared me for all the challenges I have faced in high school and will hopefully help me be more prepared and ready for college next year. Avid prepared me for the SAT and honestly without AVID I wouldn't have been as prepared as I was for the SAT. In my junior and sophomore year of high school, we spent a lot of class time going over vocabulary and practice test questions for the SAT. With the help of AVID, I have been able to keep myself organized and keep better track of my grades. With AVID having academic probation I have been able to keep better track of my grades and not slack off. When I am struggling in my classes AVID has helped me to seek help not only with my teachers but with my peers too. Tutorials twice a week have impacted my life so much whenever I’m struggling during class or struggling while I’m doing homework I can stop to write down my problem and take it to my AVID class and ask my peers for help. Working with my peers they push me to find the answer to my problem by asking me advanced questions.
My Senior year of AVID has been the most helpful yet. We worked on our FAFSA in class along with our senior portfolio. If it wasn’t for AVID making us do all the senior necessities in class I would be lost I’m so thankful for this class and I wish more students could have it to help guide them through their rough journey. With the help of our AVID counselour, I can easily go in any time of the day to ask my counselour or AVID coordinator if I have any questions about the college process. In all the AVID program has had such a big impact on my life ad I could easily say AVID is the reason I am who I am today. It has taken so much stress out of my life due to having the constant help of AVID teachers and my AVID peers.
