If you could have dinner with one U.S. President (living or not), who would it be and why? by Xavier - October 2017 Scholarship Essay

President Obama, to me was a great president. He really cares about people and making this world a better place. He has encouraged people all over the world to volunteer and give back. Some people talk about what should be done but, President Obama leads by example. He is really a good role model for young people. He shows young people like myself that its cool to attend college, hard work is rewarded and it’s important to pay it forward by helping others. I think it’s also great to see how much he loves his family. The life of a president is busy but, it seems as if he makes them a priority. I feel lucky that I experienced a time when a man such as himself would be sworn into office. I attended his first swearing in ceremony. It was a very exciting day. President Obama gave me a different picture of what a president looks like. He has greatly influenced a lot of people all over the world. I have read many news article and listened to different people talk about President Obama. Everyone may not agree with some of his political views but, outside of his position most people believe he is a caring and generous person.
If I could choose a president to have dinner with it would be former President Barack Obama. His hard work, dedication and patience is something I admire. Through 8 years of criticism he managed to always keep a calm demeanor. He has done so much to benefit this country. At dinner I would like to ask him the following: how do you balance the demanding job of a president and find time to spend with your family; what changes would you have made if you would have had 1 more year in office; are you glad for the experience and how has it changed you personally and; what do you wish you would had known about the position prior to becoming president? I would also like to ask, what drove you to be a lawyer, who are your heroes and, what advice would he give me a college student who is about to graduate?
Being president is a very important job. They are responsible making America better for everyone, people from all races, gender and creed. In this very diverse world, the president should be the road map to showing people should treat one another which is with love and kindness.
